The Mimitimbi Municipal Water Reserve was created by Municipal Agreement No. 18 of October 15, 1996 of the Municipal Council of the District of Bocas del Toro.
The reserve, which corresponds to the Quebrada Mimitimbi, is located in the central area of Isla Colon, diagonal to the road leading to Boca del Drago, via Colonia Santeņa. The approximate size of the reserve is about 160 hectares.
The birth of this unique source of fresh water is underground and travels 7.5 Km on Isla Colon through the rainforest interior to its mouth in the Caribbean Sea. During the last leg Quebrada Mimitimbi flows over the surface of the island.
